In the past few months, students have learnt about family, weather and animals. They have made family portraits, leaf lanterns and built an animal castle! They explored how every family is different, season changes, some animal habitats and just what it’s like being a big kid at school! The students have truly been having so much fun! It is easy to see how their skills have improved, whether it’s their confidence, and communication or their independence. Laughter is a key to develop a lifelong love of learning! 


在过去的几个月里,2岁班的同学们学习了家庭、天气和动物。孩子们一起制作全家福、树叶灯笼,还建了一座动物城堡!共同探索了家庭的特殊之处,季节的变化,动物的栖息地,以及从“大孩子”的视角看学校是什么样子的。课堂非常开心,看见孩子们在自信、沟通和独立方面的技能都有明显的提高。快乐对终身学习太重要了!

In Pre-K3, students have been learning about modes of transportation (land, air, water). Students went over what the vehicles in the visuals were called, then the teacher hid the flash cards all over the classroom. The students searched for one card at a time, showed the teacher, practiced the name of the vehicle (i.e. car, train, airplane etc.) and sorted it on the pocket chart under the visual for land, air, or water. This was a great way to learn theme vocabulary and to be active too. 

 

During center time, students were given cut out shapes of a variety of sizes and colors. This was a great way to incorporate language for colors and shapes, as well as enhance their fine motor skills. Other centers this week included practicing the letters learned to date by driving toy cars on the letter road mats, themed clip cards and much more.

 

Practicing numbers 1-10 and placing them in sequential order was particularly fun this week. Numbered balloons were laid out in the middle of the circle, and students reviewed numbers together. When the music played, everyone danced and when it stopped, students grabbed a balloon and started a number line. With the teachers help, the children placed all the numbers in sequential order. They had a great time learning through play. Another activity students love is songs and finger plays. Favorite songs this week were "The wheels on the bus" and "Zoom, zoom, zoom, we're going to the moon"! In class, students are given opportunities to continuously incorporate the use of phonics, theme vocabulary as well as offer channels to build on numeracy and literacy recognition through play. More importantly, each child's well-being is the top priority!


幼儿园3岁班的同学们学习了水陆空交通方式,回顾了这些交通工具的名称,然后老师把卡片藏在了教室的各个角落,同学们一张张找出来给老师看,练习交通工具(汽车、火车、飞机等)的名称表达,并用视觉方式在口袋表格上进行分类,区分了陆地、空中或水里的工具。这是学习主题词汇和让同学们动起来的好方法。

 

在探索中心,同学们练习了剪出各种大小和颜色的形状。对于结合颜色和形状语言来增强他们精细的运动技能,这是非常好的学习方式。本周的探索中心还包括在字母形状的跑道上驾驶玩具汽车,主题卡片学习等等。

 

趣味学习还发生在练习数字1-10排序的时候,本周孩子们使用气球来学习数字。孩子们围成圆圈,气球在中间,同学们先复习了自己的数字。音乐响起时孩子们一起跳起来,音乐停止时孩子们抓起一个气球,开始数数。在老师的帮助下,同学们顺利地将数字进行排列。他们玩得很开心。3岁班的同学们也喜欢学习歌曲和演奏,这周大家最喜欢的歌曲是《公车上的轮子》和《我们要去月球了》!孩子们有很多学习机会,将语音、主题词汇的使用结合起来,并通过游戏提升算数和语感。更重要的是,孩子们在快乐学习!

It is so good to be back in class after a long break! On Monday, students were asked: “Where did you go during the holiday?” From this conversation, students were able to establish that there is a lot of different means of transportation available. This week, students are focusing on land transportation. The Alberta Education flight curriculum guidelines advises teachers to focus on the learners’ interests. It was very clear that students are particularly interested in cars and trains. During discovery play, one of the centers was a train craft. With different shapes, the learners had to build their train and write their names with the letters. This activity incorporated shapes recognition, letter recognition and fine motor skills! They enjoyed making their trains greatly. In addition, this theme allowed us to play: “green light, yellow light, red light” during PE class. The students pretended that they were driving a car. When the light was green, they ran, when it was yellow, they walked, and when it was red, they stopped! Finally, we practiced vocabulary and word recognition by returning the vehicle to the appropriate garage. The students are looking forward to next week as all of us are going to talk about air and sea transportation.


节后的课堂时光非常美妙!周一老师问同学们:“假期你们去哪儿了?”从这次谈话中复习交通工具的名称。本周的课程重点是陆地交通。FLIGHT课程体系建议教育者以学习兴趣为中心进行课程设计,而本班的学生对汽车和火车特别感兴趣。在探索游戏期间,就有火车探索中心。同学们需要根据不同的形状建造他们的火车,并用字母写出自己的名字。这个活动包含了形状识别、字母识别和精细运动技能!他们非常喜欢乘火车。此外,体育课上也进行了交通灯游戏:同学们假装在开车,绿色的时候起跑,黄灯的时候慢行,红灯停下。最后,我们通过把车开到合适的“车库”来练习进行词汇量和单词识别。期待下周关于空中和水上交通工具的学习!

Kindergarten students continue to strive to be inquisitive and balanced learners. Currently, everyone is gearing towards the end of the current unit of inquiry: Discovering the world through the power of imagination, literature, and play.

 

Projects such as mounting puppet plays and maintaining journals gave students opportunities to apply their knowledge of letter sounds and formations. Classic children’s literature inspired students to write their stories complete with a beginning, a conflict, and an ending that resolves said conflict.

 

Winter art projects including snowflakes-painting, snowman-building, and ornament-making, showcased what students have learned about the nature of patterns and shapes.

 

A “virtual reality” field trip to a snow-laden terrain provoked student’ conversations on what snow is and what Canadian winter must be like. To provide an engaging sensorial and scientific experience, the water table was turned into a snow table containing animals from the northern hemisphere.

 

Special recognition goes to Kindergarten A students, who raised over 4,000RMB in total for their baby friends at an orphanage in Beijing. Their walkathon back in October as well as the virtual Talent Show they put on in December have tugged on their friends’ and families’ hearts to help them with their caring cause.

一场“虚拟现实”的雪地旅行激起了孩子们关于雪以及加拿大冬天的对话。为了提供引人入胜的感官和科学体验,探索中心的水主题被改造成雪主题,里面还有来自北半球的动物。

 

最后,A班的同学们为北京一家孤儿院的孩子朋友们筹集了超过4000元的善款。他们在10月份的步行马拉松和12月份的线上才艺表演牵动了许多朋友和家人的心,帮助他们完成了一项非常有意义的慈善事业。

It has been a fun learning journey for all of us in Grade 1!

 

Mathematics

Our little mathematicians have been covering number sequence 0 to 100. The students have demonstrated their knowledge by practicing their skip counting skills using 2s, 5s and 10s from 0 to 100 through s variety of hands on activities. The students had a lot of fun subitizing (recognizing at a glance) and naming familiar arrangements of 1 to 10 objects or dots.


English Language Arts

Students continue to grow with daily morning meetings by asking questions to get additional ideas and information on topics of interest. Students have looked at short vowel sounds and made words using word families. With daily read aloud sessions, they use a variety of strategies, such as making predictions, rereading and reading on, to understand the story that is being read. With writing, students continue to focus on inventive spelling and writing complete sentences using finger spaces!

 

Science

Students develop an awareness of their own senses and how they are used. Through hands on activities, students learn about the function of their senses, how they are cared for, how they could be damaged and how one's own ability to sense things may differ from those of other people and other living things. Through this topic, students learn to sharpen the use of their senses and describe as accurately as possible the information that their senses provide. Our little scientists made Gingerbread houses, which had all of theirs senses working together!

 

Social Studies

Students are learning to appreciate how belonging to groups and communities enriches our identity. They have identified how it is important to appreciate multiple points of view, languages, cultures and experiences within their groups and communities. This has led to opportunities to share with each other services that are provided in the wider community and what rights and responsibilities mean.

数学课上,同学们学习了0到100的数列,通过各种各样的动手活动,练习了从0到100的2位、5位和10位跳跃计数技能,展示他们所消化的知识。课堂上有非常有趣的数数环节,用1到10来数自己熟悉的物体排列,一看就明白啦。


英语语言艺术

通过每天的晨会,学生们不断地成长。在自己感兴趣的话题讨论当中,也懂得通过提问找到更多的想法和信息。学生们已经学习了短元音的发音,并使用词族拼写单词。在每天的阅读环节中,运用各种策略,如预测、反复阅读及持续性阅读,来理解所读的故事。在写作方面,继续专注于完善自主拼写,以及书写完整句子的能力。


科学

学生培养对自己感官的认识,以及使用方法。通过实践活动了解感官功能,要如何保护它们,在什么情况下可能损坏,以及每个个体感知事物不同的能力。通过这个主题,同学们学习如何敏锐地使用感官,并尽可能准确地描述感官所提供的信息。同学们还通过制作姜饼屋来综合发挥所有的感官的作用。


社会科学

最近学习的主题是感恩,群体、集体归属感的重要性,关于归属感是如何丰富自我认知,在集体和社区中欣赏多种观点、语言、文化和经历是多么重要,以及彼此分享社区服务,和权利与责任的意义。

Grade 2 has been enjoying their novel studies! They are abuzz with discussion as they connect personal experiences and knowledge of words, sentences, and story patterns from previous reading experiences to infer and confirm meaning. Together, they are engaged and love a good story! It has been fun to see the connections they have been making as they are exposed to experiences outside of their current reality. The novel, Charlotte’s Web, offers the children the door to understanding context clues and transferring new vocabulary outside of the text with authentic vocabulary building.


English Language Arts

Since December in ELA, students have been working on their narrative writing skills while following a writing process that has them revising their drafts to add additional information and better their grammar. The students have just finished up presenting their final published narratives to the class. They made us all proud of how confident they were, and the feedback and support they offered was heartwarming!


Mathematics

Students have been demonstrating an understanding of both repeating and increasing patterns through visual learning. They can extend, create, describe and compare! They have built some fantastic pyramids based on increasing patterns.


Science

Students are exploring buoyancy. They were excited to see how different things float and that salt in water changes the outcome. They are still constructing and modifying different designs for watercraft and evaluating the appropriateness of various materials.


Social Studies

The Grade 2 curriculum looks at three dynamic communities within Canada. In preparation, students needed to know what a community is. They created maps with the services they feel are necessary to support a community. They also designed posters explaining their communities and the traditions and culture that make them unique. The fabulous display is a visual appreciation of diversity here at CIS.

数学

在数学方面,同学们通过形象的学习证明了重复和图案增长的理解。他们已经可以扩展、创造、描述和比较,并运用图形增长创建了金字塔。

 

科学

在科学方面,同学们正在探索浮力。他们很兴奋地看到不同的东西漂浮在水面上,水中的盐会改变实验结果。同学们仍在建造和修改不同的船舶设计,并评估各种材料的适用性。


社会研究

在社会研究方面,二年级的课程着眼于研究加拿大三个非常活跃的社区。在准备阶段,学生需要知道什么是社区。然后他们根据自己认为社区必备的服务需求创建了社区地图,设计海报来解释社区以及其与众不同的传统和文化。最后的课堂展示也体现了多元文化国际学校的风采!

Students have been busy at work in Grade 3, learning and applying all sorts of new skills and knowledge! Students are developing their social skills as well, working to take more responsibility for themselves and their actions.

 

English Language Arts
Students have continued to develop their “writer’s tool box”, reviewing and enhancing their knowledge of nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs in various tenses. In the Reader’s workshop, students have been practicing identifying the main idea and supporting details of books, as well as completing a read-aloud titled “Honestly, Mallory”. The ‘Big Write’ week has students working to complete their own stories; involving the planning, drafting, revising and publishing of their own stories for the classroom library.


Mathematics
Students finished their unit on representing numbers. Students continued expanding their knowledge of comparing and ordering numbers and fractions, representing them concretely, pictorially, and symbolically. Students also sharpened their comprehension of place value for numbers to 1,000. 


Science
Students completed their unit on hearing and sound, examining concepts of pitch, amplitude, wavelength, and loudness. Students participated in hands-on inquiry experiments to demonstrate a variety of ways of producing sounds, and to show that sound travels through a variety of materials and states of matter. Another area of focus of the unit was how different sound amplifiers and insulators can change the way a sound is processed and understood by our ear.


Social Studies

Students dove deep into their Peru country study, looking at different geographical regions and how living and working in each different place has similarities and differences. Students have also begun to examine how the history of the Incan Indigenous peoples of Peru has shaped the country today.


12月份非常繁忙,同学们在学习和应用各种新的技能和知识,发展他们的社交技能,努力为自己和自己的行为承担更多的责任。

在科学方面,学生们学习了关于听觉和声音的单元,检验了音调、振幅、波长和响度的概念。学生们动手进行实验,学会了演示各种产生声音的方法,以及声音在各种材料和物质状态中传播的概念。单元的另一个重点领域是不同的扩音器和绝缘体如何改变我们耳朵处理和理解声音的方式。

 

社会科学

在社会科学方面,学生们深入研究了秘鲁这个国家,观察了不同的地理区域,以及在每个不同的地方生活和工作的相似性和差异性。学生们还开始研究,秘鲁印加土著民族的历史及其对这个国家的塑造。

English Language Arts 

In Reader’s Workshop, students were introduced to non-fiction text features. Students went up to the library to find nonfiction books to add to the classroom library. This week, students learned the purpose of titles and subtitles in nonfiction books. In Writer’s Workshop, students learned that there are 4 types of sentences that strong writers use in their writing. Students practiced writing declarative and interrogative sentences with quick write exercises. Curriculum outcome: Students will listen, speak, write, view and represent to explore thoughts, ideas, feelings, and experiences.

 

Mathematics 

Students practiced all 4 multiplication strategies this week to get ready for their quiz! Students who were confident with multiplication helped their peers. Peer learning is so important! Curricular outcome: Demonstrate an understanding of multiplication (2- or 3-digit by 1-digit)

 

Science 

Students learned about gravity and its role in levers. They learned important vocabulary connected to levers as well: effort, load and fulcrum. 

Curriculum outcome: Predict how changes in the size of a lever or the position of the fulcrum will affect the forces and movements involved.

 

Social Studies 

Students learned what oil sands are, the mining process and the challenges of getting oil from oil sands. Everyone discussed the benefits and problems for people and the environment. Curricular outcome: Analyze how Albertans interact with their environment by exploring and reflecting upon how natural resources used by Albertans, and how Albertans deal with competing demands on land use.

Grade 5 students are back in the swing of things after a great winter break!


English Language Arts

Students have been using dictionaries to confirm the spellings or locate meaning, by using knowledge of phonics and structural analysis, alphabetical order and guide words. Each student has their own specialized list of misspelled words.


Mathematics

Students have identified and described single transformations, including translations, rotations and reflections of 2-D shapes. They have also performed a single transformation of a 2-D shape.


Science

Students have described and demonstrated methods for measuring wind speed and for finding wind direction. They have also measured at least four different kinds of weather phenomena.


Social Studies

Students can acknowledge the roots of Francophone identity and presence in Canada. They can identify what stories about the habitants tell us about Francophone history, culture and presence in Canada.


冬假过后,学生们已经开始适应返校生活了,并且正在重新建立日常学习习惯,以确保假期后尽可能赶上功课。

Grade 6 六年级

Now that students back in school for a new year, the Grade 6s have a very fun and exciting curriculum left ahead of them. They have the opportunity to learn a variety of new things and participate in awesome activities based on the learning outcomes in the Alberta curriculum. This week, let’s focus on Science and Mathematics.


Science

Students learnt how air balloons fly and the design of balloons. Students discovered that the rising and falling of a hot air balloon is controlled by hot and cool air. They know that hot air rises because the molecules in hot air become less dense than the molecules in cool air. Since hot air is less dense, it is able to rise above the cool air. Students also looked at how parachutes help us to land safely to the ground and discovered that it is because of drag or air resistance. Next week, the students will be designing their own parachutes that they will be testing out using hard boiled eggs. The task is to prevent their egg from being cracked once it is dropped from a high place. For now, the students got to engage is fun activities with a parachute in their last science class before the challenge.

 

Mathematics

Students have been taking on the wonderful unit of Motion Geometry. They learned three different types of motions in the unit this week: translation, reflection and rotation. With that, students are becoming more familiar with each motion and are able to recognize if a shape has been flipped, turned or moved to another position on a coordinate grid. With this knowledge, students will be integrating these concepts into Art in the coming weeks. They will be designing a craft by creating a unique shape and then using that shape to make a pattern by using one of the motions they learned in the math unit.  


新年过后,又迎来回校的日子了。六年级的学生们学习到了非常有趣的课程,有机会学习各种各样的新事物,在艾伯塔课程的体系内参与到各种非常棒的活动中。

 

科学

在科学课上,六年级的学生正在学习气球的飞行原理和设计。学生们发现热气球的升降是由冷热空气控制的。他们知道热空气上升是因为热空气中的分子密度小于冷空气中的分子密度。由于热空气的密度较低,它能够上升到冷空气之上。学生们还研究了降落伞是如何因为阻力或空气阻力安全着陆的。下周,学生们将设计降落伞,用熟鸡蛋测试降落。他们的任务是防止鸡蛋从高处掉下来摔破。目前,学生们在挑战前的最后一堂科学课上参与了降落伞的有趣活动。

 

数学

在数学方面,学生们一直在学习几何运动这一奇妙的单元。这周他们学习了三种不同类型的动作:平移、反射和旋转,对每一个动作都更加熟悉,并且能够识别形状是否被翻转、旋转或移动到坐标网格上的另一个位置。有了这些知识,学生们将在未来几周会将这些概念融入到艺术中。他们将通过创造一个独特的形状并用所学的形状运动原理设计一种花纹。

Grade 1 

Prior to the holidays, the adorable Grade 1 students worked hard to prepare for their role as pandas in the Winter Festival Christmas musical production, A Beary Merry Christmas. Students learnt how to sing in tune, recognize holiday songs, and how to follow a conductor with choreographed movements. With the new year, the focus will shift towards playing with instruments! Your grade 1 child will be able to explore the sound of various musical instruments as well as be able to identify and compare sounds. Examples of non-pitched instruments include: claves, shakers, jingle bells, tambourines, bongo drums and glockenspiels. 


Grade 2

Before the holidays, the Grade 2 students worked hard to prepare for their role as grizzly bears in the Winter Festival Christmas musical production, A Beary Merry Christmas. Students learnt how to sing in tune, recognize holiday songs, and how to follow a conductor with choreographed movements. With the new year, students will now focus on making more music! Your Grade 2 child will be introduced to a variety of new musical instruments, learn their names, and be able to identify them by sound. Students will then use these new instruments to create and play their own rhythms. Examples of instruments include: boomwackers, triangles, guiros, woodblocks, cabasa, bell tree and vibraslap.


Grade 3

Before the holidays, the Grade 3 students worked hard to prepare for their role as polar bears in the Winter Festival Christmas musical production, A Beary Merry Christmas. Students learnt how to sing in tune, recognize holiday songs, and how to follow a conductor with choreographed movements. For the new year, Grade 3 students are introduced to pitched Orff instruments: xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels; they will also review the names and sounds of various classroom instruments. Students will be able to aurally sort these instruments into different categories.


Grade 4

Prior to the holidays, the Grade 4 students performed with their division at the Winter Festival in a wonderful Christmas production called Lights, Camera, Christmas! They presented in front of an enthusiastic audience, and the CIS community was delighted to hear students singing and dancing. This month, Grade 4 students will complete their recorder unit and begin the ukulele unit. Simultaneously, students will review pitched Orff instruments such as xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels, as well as a variety of classroom instruments to experiment with and combine sounds to make harmony. 


Grade 5

Before the holidays, the Grade 5 students performed with their division at the Winter Festival in a wonderful Christmas production called Lights, Camera, Christmas! They presented in front of an enthusiastic audience, and the CIS community was delighted to hear students singing and dancing. In January, Grade 5 students will complete their recorder unit and begin the ukulele unit. Additionally, students are currently starting their orchestra unit with A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra to be able to identify instruments within the four instrument families.


Grade 6

In December, the Grade 6 students performed with their division at the Winter Festival in a wonderful Christmas production called Lights, Camera, Christmas! They presented in front of an enthusiastic audience, and the CIS community was delighted to hear students acting, singing, and dancing. This month, Grade 6 students will complete their recorder unit and begin the ukulele unit. For their Orchestra unit, students are reviewing the names and sounds of instruments within their families to be able to identify those instruments within different musical pieces and ensembles.

In December, a community-building initiative was started with Grade 1-3 students. The goal is to help some younger students feel connected to each other and the larger CIS community. Through this initiative, the learning goal is to enhance the empathy and kindness our students experience and express. As a school, we recognize that being successful internationally requires more than excellent academic skills. The ability to transition between cultures requires strong communication and relationship building skills. Empathy and kindness are vital features in the development of global citizens. By the time CIS students graduate, we expect that they will be excellent ambassadors for the school and their own countries of origin.

 

The theme for this month was cooperation. For any community to thrive, its members must work together to overcome the challenges they face. During a division-wide assembly, the class discussed the importance of community and cooperation. Following this, students were divided into their respective houses to engage in some games that required them to use their cooperation skills to be successful. The CIS house system ensures students work together with team members of different ages and other classes to expand their sense of community further. Learning through play is an incredibly effective way for students to learn. Play allows students to take in information and integrate it into their understanding by applying the lesson experientially. The students rotated through four different learning stations that allowed them to practice their skills of cooperation while playing and building relationships with students they may engage with less regularly. Each month, Grades 1-3 will engage in activities based on a monthly theme related to community.

 

We look forward to seeing our students' relationships with each other, the staff, and the CIS community grow as they become brilliant global citizens.

期待看到同学们成长为优秀的全球公民,持续建立和CIS的教职工和大家庭的社区联系。

The IDEALab at CIS is a creative, innovative space which is open for every grade and every subject. Grade 7s have been using the space for their science project. Students were instructed to learn and research the plant given to them. Once their research was completed they needed to take that knowledge and draw a poster. Using Makey Makey, the students then transformed their project into an interactive poster! By a simple touch the poster would explain about the plant using the student's voice. Just another great way to make their thinking visible and show their understanding of the content being taught. It is always so interesting to observe student's process using design thinking strategies. The class finished with the students presenting their interactive posters to the class. It is always so powerful when the student becomes the teacher! The CIS film studio is also busy with students writing their own scripts, making a scene, preforming in the scene, videoing it and editing it. The learning never stops!

 

There are still plenty of stop motion and green screen projects happening in the IDEA Lab. Learners have to use a skill of planning a whole project, writing a script, hand making a scene, performing in the video and editing it. So much fun

Grade 7 Native Class

Students are exploring an essay "Cat". This will allow students to learn more sight characters and words, and to carry out dictation as well. Student will get to know the background of the author, analyze the structure of article and work in small groups to finish the reading exercises, and discuss and find truths revealed in the articles.


Grade 7 Non-native Class

Students started to learn a new lesson: Lesson 7 Subjects of study. Students also learnt inquiry and characters around the topic ‘Subjects’. This week, students studied and reviewed Chinese pronunciation and characters in various subjects such as Chinese, English, mathematics, chemistry, physics, history, and PE. They also learned how to express personal feelings of various subjects in Chinese, such as "I think…is easy/very difficult/not very difficult".


Grade 8 Native Class

Students are exploring an ancient article "Mr. Full Want to Move the Mountain". Students will get to know the background of author, design a poster, figure out the meaning of the story in modern language, and write a similar fable.


Grade 8 Non-native Class

Students have started to learn Level 4 of Easy Steps to Chinese. This week, students are learning Lesson 1, the topic of Appearance. They engaged in listening games, new words and text speaking studies about the topic. During class, the students have really enjoyed learning the new content.


Grade 9 Native Class

This week, students studied Mr. Lu Xun's "Hometown". This text tells the story of the author returning to his hometown after many years, and discovering that the people have been living miserable lives. It expresses the author's strong desire and firm belief to transform the old society and create a new life.


Grade 9 Non-native Class

Our Grade 9 students have been learning about the topic of “Schools”. In this topic, students have been required to learn how to introduce school facilities and extracurricular activities in Chinese. This teaching topic focuses on the use of "may" for sentence practice and the correct use of quantifiers for word collocation.


Our next stage is to prepare for the Chinese New Year Festival and continue to learn new topic for teaching.


7年级母语班 - 在这段时间里,7年级母语班的同学们正在探索一篇题为《猫》的作文,积累情景文字并完成听写。通过了解作者背景,分析文章结构,小组讨论完成阅读练习。最后讨论并发现文章中所揭示的真相。


7年级非母语班 - 同学们开始学习新课程:第7课。有关“学科”主题。同学们学习并复习了中文,英语,数学,化学,物理,历史和体育等各个学科的汉语发音和汉字,并学习如何用中文表达对学科学习的个人感受,例如:“我认为……很容易/很困难/不是很困难”。

9年级非母语班 - 同学们学习了关于“学校”的话题。本课题要求同学们用中文介绍学校设施和课外活动。这个教学主题侧重于“可能”句式练习和正确使用量词的词搭配。

中文学习的下一个阶段是准备中国新年庆典并继续学习新的教学课题。

After three weeks of study, Grade 10 students finally ended their journey of Chinese history, in which students explored various concepts, kings, revolutions and cultural changes from the Shang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.

 

There are four main historical revolutions in the history of ancient China, which are namely, revolution between the Shang and Zhou Dynasty, Qin and Han Dynasty, Tang and Song Dynasty and revolution from Ancient to Modern. In this unit, students not only remember facts concerning Chinese history, but they also have a depth understanding of China and the core values of Chinese civilization. 

 

Different kind of assessments includes quizzes, presentations and essays are applied in this unit to develop and supports students' metacognitive skills.

 

Students start to explore traditional Chinese poems this week and they will need to complete an analysis project based on what they have learnt.


Students of HSK 5 learnt lesson 16 "Weight and Diet". They learnt 41 new words, three grammatical words, as well as the understanding of the content of the article. In addition, according to the content of the text, students also expand their extracurricular knowledge and introduce strange aesthetics from all over the world, which they are very interested in. At present, students are still learning lesson 17.

 

HSK 4 learnt lesson 12 "Discovering the World with Your Heart". Through this lesson, students learnt 32 new words and some grammatical words, as well as the understanding of the content of the article. They also had a spelling test of new words!

 

In HSK2 level this week, students learnt lesson 11 "He is Taller Than Me". Students focused on the "比" sentence, and student were able express views more fluently. In addition, students learnt 9 new words and 4 dialogues. Students are currently learning lesson 12, "You're Wearing too Little".


经过三周的学习,10年级的同学们结束了中国历史之旅。在这段旅程中,学生们探索了从商朝到清朝的各种概念、帝王、革命和文化变迁。


中国历史包括四个主要历史革命:商周之变,秦汉之变,唐宋之变和古今之变。在本单元中同学们不仅要记住相关知识,也需要进行深度理解,并懂得中国,中华文明的核心价值。

HSK四级的同学本周学习了第十二课《用心发现世界》。通过这节课我们学习了32个生词,一些语法词,已经文章的理解。我们还进行了生词听写。


HSK2级本周学习第十一课《他比我高》。我们重点学习了“比”字句,学生根据练习可以比较流畅地表达自己的观点。另外还学习了9个生词,四篇对话。目前正在学习第十二课《你穿得太少了》。

Physical Education (PE)

This week, the students are beginning their final project for sports emergencies. This involves creating RAM forms as well as planning for any potential accidents with different sports.  This is a culminating project that covers everything they have learned over the last module.


In PE, the students are practicing with archery. They have two in-class competitions this week that they will participate in. The first is a simple competition using the same rules as darts for the most part. Each student fired one arrow and points were taken from the target. The team with the highest score won. The second competition is individual in that each student will begiving three shots to make a score of 9 or 10 on the target. Any student who does this will be awarded a token for their house. 


Science

In high school sciences, difficult concepts and new skills are learned daily. Before the winter holidays, students were learning new content every day and were focusing on covering the curricular components for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to a mastery level. Some content was easy, some hard, but all in all, students worked their way through the content and are now entering the review sessions before the final exams.


Social Studies

In Grade 11 Social Studies, students have learned about the history of Canadian confederation and how its constitution was meant to be pluralistic and multicultural. They have studied the three branches of governments, compared the British and American constitution, and seen how the parliamentary system tries to incorporate the voices of all the different communities in a nation.


English Language Arts

This semester has been busy but productive for the Grade 12 students. They have all shown great progress throughout the semester in their reading, writing and oral skills, through projects, tests and classroom discussions. 

Students begun the semester by writing strong persuasive essays that included figurative language and persuasive techniques. After this, poetry and short stories were introduced. Students were asked to create their very own creative poetry portfolios on a theme of their choice, which were very enjoyable to read. Students then began a unit on media studies where they were engaging in classroom discussions on how to critically analyze the film, The Shawshank Redemption, in form of a text. A novel study unit was followed where students were asked to create artistic posters that symbolized the main character, themes, symbols and settings of the novel they read. Students were very creative in this project and a lot of great ideas came afloat. Finally, students had the opportunity to study the Shakespearean play, Hamlet, and the popular melodrama, A Streetcar Named Desire. They were then asked to compare and contrast the main protagonists. In the words of our teacher, “It has been a great pleasure teaching the Grade 12 students and I have learned a lot from them. Now, they will begin to prepare for the Alberta education diploma exams.”


体育(PE)

社会科学

在11年级社会科学中,学生了解了加拿大联邦的历史以及其组成的多元文化。同学们研究了政府的三个部门,比较了英国和美国的宪法,并了解了议会制度如何设法吸收一个国家所有不同社区的声音。


英语语言艺术

这个学期非常繁忙,但是对12年级的学生来说收获颇丰。在整个学期中,通过项目,测试和课堂讨论,他们在阅读,写作和口语技能方面都取得了长足进步。


学生在学期开始时撰写了说服性文章,其中包括比喻性语言和说服性技巧。之后学习诗歌和短篇小说,老师要求学生根据自己选择的主题创建自己的创意诗歌作品集,收到了非常有趣的作品。然后,同学们开始了媒体研究单元,他们在课堂上讨论如何以文本的形式对电影《肖申克的救赎》进行批判性分析。随后是一个小说学习单元,要求学生制作艺术海报,这些海报象征着他们所读小说的主要人物,主题,符号和背景。在这个项目中,学生很有创造力,并且产生了许多很棒的想法。最后,学生们学习了莎士比亚的戏剧《哈姆雷特》和情景剧《欲望号街车》。然后比较主要人物。用老师的话说:“教12年级的学生是非常高兴的一件事,我也从他们那里学到了很多东西。现在,他们将开始为艾伯塔省文凭考试做准备。”
